Today marks 61 (UgAt61) years since Uganda gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1962. The day has since been a state holiday, commemorated countrywide on October 9 annually.

The country is currently jubilant, and some Ugandans have expressed gratitude for their country’s enormous accomplishments on social media.

Several notable figures in the entertainment industry have also taken to their socials, clad in gabs that feature the country’s flag to celebrate the 61st independence.

Events around the country are already underway, with numerous musicians expected to perform. In the same vein, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to address the nation, at the main Independence Day celebration Kitgum district.
