Daphne Ampire Karema, an esteemed figure in the film industry with a decade of experience, unveiled her latest creation, the 15-episode mini-TV series “Borders,” at the Motiv–Bugolobi premiere. The series intricately captures the life of an African Jewel Dance Troop, offering a linguistic tapestry in English, Luganda, and Swahili that promises viewers a diverse cultural experience.

During the premiere, Karema acknowledged the demanding nature of the film business, expressing gratitude to sponsors like UCC for their support, emphasizing its direct impact on the series’ quality.

Addressing the State Minister for Trade in attendance, Karema urged her to foster credibility for Uganda as the “Pearl of Africa” by ensuring the country’s narrative resonates with international audiences. She highlighted the potential of exporting films, comparing it to the success of Ugandan coffee on the global stage.

In response, Minister Ntabazi Harriet encouraged filmmakers to step out of their comfort zones, emphasizing the educational role of filmmaking in shaping societal perceptions. She pledged government support for filmmakers, suggesting the formation of cooperatives for financial assistance.

Harriet, revealing her past as a filmmaker, emphasized the importance of being seen and heard in the industry. She underlined the significance of storytelling, noting that one’s existence may go unnoticed without a platform to share their voice.
