Police have launched an investigation against one of Hassan Mande Kiwalabye’s colleagues, identified as Ronald, who beat up the former and died from his injuries.
According to a statement issued by Kampala metropolitan police deputy public relations officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Mande, who is a brother to singer Eddy Kenzo, was left severely injured on the head following a battle with a friend Ronald at Katwe playgrounds near Katwe Market on Sunday, October 16.
Ronald is said to have dropped Male off at his house after the beatings and given him painkillers to soothe the agony of his wounds, which were largely on his face.
After Mande informed his sister Beth Namugumya about his deteriorating health state. They approached Eddy Kenzo for financial aid, which he promptly provided.
Mande was eventually admitted to a dental facility along Buganda Road, where doctors discovered that his jaws had been cracked.
It is here that Mande made it known to the medical team that he was assaulted by his friend, Ronald.
“An operation was carried out on the injured area, but his situation worsened. He moved from different hospitals for better care. On Friday (October 21, 2022) Male was taken to Platinum Hospital where he died at about 11 am,” ASP Owoyesigyire disclosed.

His body was later taken to the city mortuary at Mulago for a post-mortem before it was laid to rest Rest in Salaam Muslim Cemetery in Nkoowe Wakiso district yesterday.
Police noted that efforts are underway to get Ronald and other eyewitnesses to record statements, as investigations into the matter continue.
